Motorcycle Clutch Lever

I need to do Clutch work on my 74 Honda cb500T motorcycle. Anyone have any advice?
I have been having this ongoing issue with this bike. When riding and in gear, I feel this clicking/popping on the clutch lever when I ride. It cause the cable to break once. I replaced the cable and did the proper cable adjustment and still no go. The clicking is still there. I cleaned and re-greased the caliper that pushes the clutch rod thinking that maybe the issue and no go. still the same issue. I’m convinced it is the clutch itself that is causing the clicking/popping and pushing on the clutch rod. Anyone have any experience with this? Its hard to find a shop that will work on these older bikes so I’m going to have to tackle this myself and any advise will help. Know of any good places I can buy clutch parts? Thanks
I don’t know if it was your question that I answered before or not. My reply then was that if the cylindrical shaped barrel on the end of the clutch cable at the lever isn’t greased, you’ll get a jerky feeling when working the lever. It will also kink the cable and cause it to break near the barrel. Some cables have a little half round plastic bushing that fits over the barrel to reduce the need for lubricant.
One question I have for you is if the clutch lever has needed frequent adjustment? If so, then it would sound as if there’s something wearing inside the clutch.
Additional:
I just checked the bike bandit site and as I suspected, there is a bearing ball between the clutch rod and the actuator at the clutch cable. Since I don’t have a manual I’m not sure what all is involved in taking things apart, but I think checking that ball would be worth it if you’ve ruled out other causes such as cable lubrication.
Have you always owned the bike? Has the clutch ever been apart before? Is this something that just started recently? If so, did it start suddenly or kind of came on slowly?
I’d want to make sure someone hasn’t worked on the clutch before and forgot to replace the ball or the hard surface on the ball is deteriorating. Either would let the spinning clutch basket try to rotate the actuation lever at the cable end.
