Kingpin Rebuild
’64 VW Bug wtf is a Kingpin?
I went to get my car alined and they told me they couldnt because it needed a new Kingpin. I called this Vdub place I normally go to, and they want $300 to replace it because it needs to be rebuilt? Is that a reasonable price or am i being ripped off? Plus it needs new front tires, which are 145′s and IMPOSSIBLE to find anywhere except this one place, and they want $90 apiece. This all sucks because the alinement was only supposed to be $40 and now i have to find about $500 to pay for all this. o.0
the king pin is basically your front suspension as a whole. if you do some shopping around you might be able to find a new one for that price. start w/ hot VWs magazine(if in america). check the same mag for better tires(mooreparts.com)$75). for now rotate the front tires to the back and you can squezze some time into it but you’ll have to act quickly cuz youll need 4 tires eventually

Kingpin 4 $158.95 The Kingpin 4 by Yakima is a mid-level 4-bike carrier mounts on 2-inch receiver hitches. The Kingpin’s dual-arm design fits more bike types, and Pin-fold arms fold down when not in use. This rack can be tilted down for access to the back of the vehicle.
