Do I Need To Replace My Cam Chain Tensioner? 2004 Yamaha R6?
On mine, there is a rattling noise from the right side of the bike. Not too loud when cold but as the engine warms up, it increases. And you can hear it especially at idle because when I’m riding, you can’t really hear anything except my exhaust. The bike has 23K miles on it so is it normal that they start to go out at any specific time?
Seems to be getting louder each week… but that’s maybe because I am focusing on it rather than anything else since I noticed it rattling.
But besides that, it runs perfect! Never had a problem… just curious about the rattling.
And also, what exactly is the Cam Chain Tensioner? What does it do and how do you know if it goes bad or should be replaced?
Well if you listen right near the chain where it turns… you can hear that rattling. It’s not really ticking or anything for the valves but just rattling… especially when it’s hot and at idle. I’ll see if I can get a video of the noise
Get the valves adjusted before wasting money on a cam chain tensioner that may not need to be replaced.
